Back on the Grind

I'm back on the Grind after taking a couple weeks off poker to do the Ironman Triathlon the weekend of Aug 29th, and then went away with friends the following weekend to Denman Island to chill and party.

The Ironman was a success! It didn't go as smoothly as planed but when you attempt the most difficult single day endurance event it rarely does. The plan from the beginning was to meet up with my Dad after the swim in transition 1 and then stick it out together the rest of the way. I finished the 3.8km swim (2.4 miles) in 1hour 21 min and waited for my Dad for about 10 minutes in T1. We headed out on the 180km (112 mile) bike course and grinded it out there for 7 hours 40 minutes. We were expecting the bike to take about 6.5-7 hours but my Dads upper back was totally seized from a crash he sustained 6 weeks prior to the event. This meant that we had to stop about 5 times for me to rub Voltaren (topical ibuprofen) onto his back. There were also brutal headwinds the last hour or so on the bike that slowed us down. When we got to the run we had already gone longer than expected on the bike so weren't concerned with time as much as making sure we got the finish. So we ran about 80% of the 42Km (26 mile) marathon and walked the other 20% - mostly steep hills and water stations. Our marathon took 4 hours 45 minutes. Our total Ironman time was 14 hours 18 minutes. Im very proud and happy of my Dad and myself for conquering this event, and am already anticipating when I will take another attempt at Ironman to blow this time out of the water.

Denman Island was a total blast. Beata and about 10 friends went up to my buddy Ross's cabin and chilled, partied and fully enjoyed the good company and beautiful scenery.

SNAP BACK TO REALITY - you poker game will suffer after not playing 2 weeks. I got destroyed the first 3 days back dropping about 23 buyins. In one 3 hour session I lost 13 buyins for my worst single session ever ( in terms of buyins not $ ). I was also running terrible only about -9 buyins in $EV but -24 in $. I bounced back today booking a +6 buyin day and hope it's the start of something good. I also made a video today that I hope to get reviewed soon.
